Polarstar Kythera - JG AUG A2 DMR

This build was something I decided to do on a whim. We had a shipment of new replicas turn up for sale for our store, amongst them happened to be this! I started thinking to myself:

“wow, that would make a really cool DMR… What if I could HPA it?”

Well, this was the result!

Some slight modifications to the gearbox shell and it was as easy as that! I decided to go with the Kythera for this build as I was mostly used to mechanical systems and GBBs at the time. With very little research, I found out it was doable and I started planning my build!

Parts List:

  • Kythera V3 with “higher” spring

  • ZCI 6.02 550mm inner barrel

  • Maple leaf 80° Super Macron bucking

  • Maple leaf Omega nub

  • Various strips of foam and elastic bands

The build was went super smoothly and there was just a few quality of life modifications to do after the engine was installed

If any of you have ever owned or touched one of these A2s, the first thing you would have noticed is the springy, twangy sound they make every time you make the slightest movement! This is easily solved thought, with just a small amount of “bodge job” fixes!

The trigger bar is fairly noisy. To easily rectify that, all you’ll need is one or two thin but strong elastic bands, Simply remove the upper from the lower, then you’ll be able to see the trigger bar. At each end there are two hooks that hold the spring for the trigger return. Just stretch an elastic band over the two hooks and on-top of the spring and voila! no more twang!

The second boingey sound comes from the folding grip on the A2. This again is a super simple fix, just twist and pull the cap out on the bottom of the grip, revealing the spring. Then all you’ll need to do, is wrap the spring in something soft to stop the vibrations. In my case, I had some small pieces of foam that were near perfect fit. I just cut them down and stuffed them in the grip! This took a little patience as you need to be some sort of contortionist to hold the bottom plate out whilst also trying to stuff the foam inside… but you’ll get there with plenty of swearing!

All in all, this build was great! I haven’t used it for a while so I probably need to do some maintenance on the engine, should be simple enough!
